Matthew 25:35-40

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me…Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Adopt a need.

You asked, “what can I do, to help a Ukrainian family fleeing the war?” So here it is:

As a family arrives there are basic necessities that need to be met that volunteers like yourself can assist with. We can connect you and your church to a family and their need. You can adopt a single need or several needs. Here are some examples of needs for all Ukrainian families arriving in our area. Airport Pick up. We call that transportation. Help with enrolling a child in school. We call that document assistance. Provide a room or a house for a temporary stay. We call that housing. Provide a meal. We call that providing a meal – hopefully a culturally appropriate one at first; just ask. Take them on a tour, park, or bring them to church. We call that cultural orientation. Hire a skilled Ukrainian to work. That’s called employment. By the way, many arriving Ukrainians speak basic English. In some cases, families will need help with interpretation or translation. How about a Welcome Basket with some toys for the kids. Don’t forget the chocolate. We call that fun.

These examples are just a few, but you can use your imagination, sign up for a category of a need that you or your church can meet, and be creative. In Florida, housing and public transportation are scarce, so rent and vehicles are a big need. Follow the posted needs and important information on our Telegram channel below.
